I was born and raised in Minneapolis, MN. I grew up living with my mother and two younger brothers, and I'm so thankful that we have a great relationship! My family is very close and they are still very much an intricate part of me!
Growing up we didn't have much of monetary value, but we always had each other. I respect my mother for raising us to have dreams and goals and to hold our heads high ,regardless of our situation!
I owe so much to my grandparents as well! When I was young my grandparents traveled to churches, singing gospel music. Some of my fondest childhood memories are of the summers I got to travel with them and help sell records and tapes after the church services. My grandfather passed away before he could see all my dreams become reality, but I carry his drive and determination with me in my spirit! I feel secure in knowing he is watching me from his mansion in heaven and I hope he is proud! "I miss you Poppy"!!
My grandmother has always been my favorite person ever! I got a lot of my fashion sense from my grandmother. She'd always let me dress up in her heels, pocketbooks, scarves and jewelry. If I have one regret it'd be no being able to see my family as much as I'd like.
I am a single mother of the three greatest kids in the world! (Ok, I'm biased....) They surprise me daily! I learn so much from them and I love their take on life. I am so proud of them! Motherhood is so special and important to me … it's my greatest accomplishment!
I've always had a passion for beauty and fashion. I was a bathroom hairstylist way before I was ever licensed. I'd always recruit my cousins, the girls from the neighborhood and sometimes my little brothers into my bathroom beauty shop.
My big break came after beauty school when I interned under Kristi Fuhrmann (MTV's head stylist at the time). I learned so much about the business from Kristi! She's genuinely amazing! And after two months as an intern she hired me as a freelance hairstylist and make-up artist for MTV studios.
To date, I have been blessed to have had the opportunity to work with so many wonderful people, travel and fulfill many of my dreams of making the world more beautiful...... one person at a time!
